Facts:

·         The British benefited from their relationship with the American colonies primarily by buying raw materials from the colonies and selling them finished goods.

·         The Mayflower Compact, New England town meetings, and the Virginia House of Burgesses were all examples of early colonial efforts in self-government.

·         The Mayflower Compact is considered and important step in the development of American democracy because it provided a basis for self-government in the Plymouth Colony.

·         Some characteristics of the New England colonies were that they had villages with town meetings, small farms and commercial fishing and the First American College.

·         During the first half of the 1700s, England interfered very little in colonial affairs.  This hands-off policy was called salutary neglect.  They interfered little because they wanted to continue to benefit from the economic prosperity of the American colonies.

·         The main reason Great Britain established the Proclamation Line of 1763 was to avoid conflicts between American colonists and Native American Indians

·         The Declaration of Independence (1776) had a major influence on peoples throughout the world because it provides justification for revolting against unjust governments.
